Akumal, Mexico on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico is the location of many submarine caves . My son took a scuba diving trip there to dive in these caves. These photos were taken there. | |
Note that most of these photos were taken underwater in these caves. These caves were formed as dry caves and then flooded with water, so many of the "pretties" associated with the formations of dry caves are present. These caves have "air domes" in them that are large domes of air trapped in the cave millions of years ago as the caves flooded. Although a scuba diver can surface inside such an "air dome", he dare not breathe the air in one because who knows its composition. Also, many of the "pretties" in the cave produced in its formation are extremly fragile after being emerged in water for millions of years, so scuba divers in these caves dare not touch any of these formations. |
